Thanks to her numerous trips to Japan, Malgorzata Olejniczak discovered the art and philosophy of ink painting. Since 2001 she has been studying the Sumi-e art in Tokyo in the classes of well-known masters such as Ilan Yanizky, and since 2012 she has been perfecting her skills in the class of Master Tohun Kobayashi.

She runs courses of Japanese painting in Switzerland, Poland and Germany, among others in “Manggha” –the Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Cracow and in Eko-Haus in Dusseldorf.  She regularly exhibits her works at individual and group exhibitions. In 2016 Olejniczak received a Special Award in the Tokyo National Art Center,  followed by a Special Award in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum during Le Salon Blanc –The International Exhibition of Contemporary Art. She became the member of jury for the Asia Exhibition 2019 at The National Art Center in Tokyo, Japan

Sumi-e–Philosophy and meditative art, the ancient tradition with a modern interpretation

Originating in China, Sumi-e means “drawing with black ink on paper.” This technique uses modest means and tries more to suggest as to clearly express a specific meaning. The Sumi-e painting requires a strong self-control and, at the same time, a lot of naturalness and spontaneity. It is an art of meditation and internal development. In fact, the path for a goal is much more important than the goal itself. It is a continuous quest for inner harmony. Olejniczak unifies various traditional techniques with modern ideas. She creates her unique Sumi-e world while using a large palette of Japanese and Western tools.
